The latest riff on Sherlock Holmes is coming to the CW network in mere days, and we’ve got a trailer with the detective himself, played in this version by the indomitable David Thewlis, as well as his… daughter(?), played by Blu Hunt, whose previous credits include The Originals and Another Life.
The premise of the show is summed up nicely in the trailer, and also in this official synopsis:
Sherlock & Daughter puts Sherlock Holmes (David Thewlis) out of his comfort zone, mysteriously unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends. Enter: young American Amelia (Blu Hunt). After her mother’s mysterious murder, she learns her missing father may be the legendary detective. Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, the pair must work together to solve a global conspiracy, crack her mother’s murder, and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock’s daughter.
The trailer also gives us a glimpse of Dougray Scott’s Moriarity, who apparently thinks he knows more about being a dad than Sherlock (whether Moriarity is a good dad, however, is highly, highly debatable).
The concept of this “mystery thriller” series was created by Brendan Foley (The Man Who Died, Cold Courage), and is helmed by showrunner James Duff, whose previous credits include being a writer and producer on Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, as well as showrunning the Kyra Sedgwick series The Closer, and Major Crimes.
Sherlock & Daughter premieres on the CW network on April 16, 2025.
